while Camping
When
I was a child I created a simple tradition.
Whenever we went camping my father was always the first up in the
morning. If we were camping he was starting a fire early in the morning to
sit by or if we were at the hot springs he’d be sitting in a pool,
shoulders under the hot water. I
would hurry and dress, waking up early to spend the time alone with him.
Often we didn’t speak, a word here and there but the
companionship was precious to me, and still is.
I look forward to my children wanting to spend quiet moments with
me as well and realizing the important bonds that develop during those
moments. This tradition hasn’t ended with my childhood, I still wake
up early on camping trips and family reunions to spend this time alone
with my dad and the minutes become more important to me every time.
