South African Christmas Tradition

In South Africa we tie a string, or tape it well, to the ceiling on one side of the room and then in the next corner. As Christmas cards arrive they are displayed on the string. We love to hang our cards this way still, my children get so excited every time a new Christmas card arrives and we have to take turns hanging them to save my sanity. It serves a couple of purposes, friends and family become part of our decorating and if you stand under the string you can re-read all those messages.
