Tree Trimming Tradition

We have three children ranging in age from 8-18. Trimming the Christmas tree is a very special occasion for our family. We pick a night (usually the second week in December). After dinner we begin the festivities. We put on Christmas music and everyone has "special" ornaments. My husband and I decided when our first child was a baby that we would like to eliminate the problem of our children having to buy ornaments for their first Christmas tree when they are grown. So every year each child receives one special ornament which represents something they have done that year. For example the year our daughter was in the ballet, her ornament was a crystal ballerina. Each ornament is marked with the year received and every year the ornaments are divided and the children place their own ornaments on the tree. When they move on, they will take their own ornaments with them to begin their own "traditional tree".
