Crayon shapes
Broken crayons drive me crazy. I am
constantly fishing them out of the box. The next time that you have a pile
of broken crayons have your children peel the wrappers off, if they are
anything like my younger ones they won’t need a second invitation, and
divide them into similar color piles. Then either use candy molds or
muffin tins and fill the molds with the small pieces, break the crayons
into pieces about ½ inch long. Then if the mold is plastic put it in your
microwave and experiment with the amount of time needed to melt the wax,
or if it is metal melt it in the oven. Set them in a cool place to set and
cool. When they are reset pop them out by tapping the mold lightly on a firm surface. We
have made bugs for cousins birthdays and they have loved them. A mixture
of colors will create a "rainbow" crayon, but watch the melting
point carefully so that you don’t end up with a muddy color instead.
Cleanup is easy, just wipe out your molds with a paper towel while the
mold is warm, replace in the oven or microwave for a few seconds.
