My 5 year old, Joseph, is
a very confident little boy especially when he is discussing life with his 3 year old
sister, Miriam. After a family trip to the Dentist a couple of weeks ago, for check ups
and maintenance, he and Miriam got into a very intense discussion about the subject. It is
amazing to me how these amazing sponge-like little minds associate things and file them
away. This discussion was a very interesting example of how these minds work.
Joseph was boasting to Miriam about how many fillings that he was going to "get to
have". For some reason he thought that made him really cool and grown up. As I
listened a little closer I found out that he was calling the fillings something a little
different. I asked him what he was going to get and he replied, "I am going to get 3
fill-ins." I told him that they were actually called "fillings" and he
said, "Uh-uh, Dad, theyre called fill-ins cause the Dentist fills in the whole
in your tooth."
