Cooking With Kids
by Bernadine Sevy
We sit down together for dinner every night. I hope that as our children get older that
they will want to continue this tradition. I think that a good family rule would be to eat
together at least 3 times a week. Cooking
dinner with your children is also a great opportunity for real quality time and
discussion. Each of our children is given a day of the week, which is their opportunity to
choose and to help prepare the family meal. Every other week they also get to pick the
meal. Children love to measure, scoop, stir and talk.
This recipe is a favorite and freezes well, feeds 2 adults
and 6 children.
Peel 10 medium potatoes and 6 carrots, and 4 celery sticks.
Chop into eighths and barely cover with water and season with salt and lemon pepper. Cook
till tender. Mash and add 1 can evaporated milk, 1 can cream of chicken or mushroom soup
and 1 can of drained clams. Cook till heated through and serve with bread, rolls, crackers
etc.
